EDM Sauce Exclusive Interview with TEGI

DJ producer, TEGI, is one artist that you should definitely be on the look-out for. During this year's EDC Orlando, the rising star had the opportunity to officially kick-off the famous festival at the Corona Electric Beach stage on Friday. Fortunately, he took some time out of his busy schedule to do an interview with EDMSauce. We spoke about his amazing performance, some new upcoming music, and even got to know more about him.

EDMSauce
“First, I want to thank you for doing this interview. So tell me, how was your first experience performing at EDC Orlando?”

TEGI

“It was amazing! It was the first time I'd actually been to EDC, so actually performing here was a very eye-opening experience. I got to play a lot of my new music and new tracks and it was just an amazing experience overall.”

EDMSauce
“What are your plans before the new year? Are you planning on releasing any new music? Any special performances?”

TEGI
“Yeah, I have a couple of tracks that I'm going to be releasing. Tonight, I’m actually opening for Tchami and Malaa and I should be playing in LA next month. I got a couple of things coming up, but I'm definitely going to release at least one more track before the year ends.”

EDMSauce
“What exactly influenced you into electronic music? What made you want to become a DJ producer?”

TEGI
“I've always liked electronic music. I used to like justice and Deadmau5 when I was growing up. After hearing them, I always wanted to know how they made the music. I was always in band growing up so I actually knew music theory, but I never knew how they made it electronically. So then I started to get into that and it kind of started as a hobby and then slowly became a thing I love to do now.”

EDMSauce
“So what are some festivals you'd love to perform at?”

TEGI
“One of the festivals I’d love to perform at is the music festival in Amsterdam, ADE. I’ve actually got to perform at Ultra earlier this year and EDC Orlando which is already two of the biggest festivals on my list, but ADE is definitely one I’d love to perform at.”

EDMSauce
“How about EDC Vegas?”

TEGI
“Yeah, that's another festival I’d definitely want to perform at.”

EDMSauce
“Are there any last words you would like to say to people that are trying to make it into electronic music, especially in the industry.”

TEGI
“Just work hard and be persistent. Persistence and consistency are probably the most important things to have because producing can be something that you like for a year and then you suddenly slow down, which prevents you from growing. Make sure to work on your craft and try to get better at what you do. If you give 50%, then you're only going to get 50% results, so give it your all!”

EDMSauce
“What's your favorite music to listen to? Like an EDM sub-genre or maybe something completely different, like country.”

TEGI
“I'm not going to lie, that’s a hard question. I really like the progressive house even though I play trap/future bass music. I really like the progressive house that was coming out from the 2007 and 2008 era. It's just so nostalgic! I always find myself on youtube playing it. It’s definitely the top music that I listen too.”

EDMSauce
“Is there a specific artist you're listening to right now that's been on repeat?”

TEGI
“I'm really into Illenium. I love how his style is hard, but it's also very melodic, which is what I try to do with my music. He could balance both and it's not like super, super slow. He plays music that you enjoy hearing at a festival or even just enjoy listening to with your headphones.”

Before finishing our interview, TEGI had a few things to say about a new track that is currently in the works:

TEGI
“I currently have a track that I'm working on with Elvis Crespo that I feel will be something big. It’s going to have trap and merengue elements which are part of my culture. I love the idea of combining those elements, especially because they represent who I am. It’s definitely going to be a special track.”
