Interview: Sondr Speak On Their “True Love”

Sondr is a growing partnership with some awesome tracks under their belts. With “True Love” doing incredibly well as a recent release, we caught up with the duo to hear more.

Good to chat guys, thanks for joining us! How has the start of 2018 been for you so far?

Thanks for having us! It’s been great so far, it’s always exciting to kick off a new year after a couple weeks off over the holidays. There’s always this great new year energy around, you know? We spent a lot of time in the studio last year working on new music, so this year we aim to release music and tour as much as is humanly possible

When did you first start working together as a duo? How do your individual styles differ?

We had a chance meeting at a London studio complex in 2015 when both of our vocalists canceled on us last minute. We were working individually as writer/producers at the time, so instead of going home empty handed we decided to make something together. The song we wrote that day landed with another artist pretty quickly so we thought it was a good idea to work together more. The third song we wrote was “Surviving” which gained the attention of Ultra Music President Patrick Moxey, who consequently signed us to a record deal. We’ve been making music together ever since!

We have a lot of common ground musically as we are both guitar players so we try to incorporate guitars into our music as much as possible

You’ve just released a wicked single titled “True Love” and we really do love it! How long did you work on it for?

Thanks, so glad you guys are loving it! We’ve been working on the song on and off for about 8 months now! The original idea came very quickly but it took a long time to finish it. We are very much perfectionists, so the process takes a lot of refinement.

It was also written with Jessie Reyez, right? How did you first meet her and what did she bring to the track?

Yeah that’s right! The song was co-written with Jessie and The Priest and the Beast. Jessie is an absolute super-star – she has such a unique swag about her. She definitely brought the swag!

Laurell’s vocals sound amazing on the tune, would you be keen to work together on something in the future?

We couldn't agree more, we had heard Laurell on Tritonal’s song “Good Thing” and we knew we had to have her on this track. She has such a distinctive tone to her voice, which is exactly what we were looking for. We actually hooked up for a writing session at the end of last year so there could definitely be another SONDR/Laurell collab in the works!

What else have you got coming up in the near future?

We are dropped collab with Felix Jahean “LOV” in February Then we are off to Sweden to play our first show in Stockholm. “Surviving” and “Live Love Learn” both went Gold there, so we are really excited to play and meet some fans. There is a lot of new SONDR music on the way!

How do you spend your time when you’re not making and playing music?

We are both massive foodies so we like to cook as well as find new places to eat. With that hobby in mind we have to work out a lot so you’ll find us at the gym a good few times a week. When we are home we try to spend as much time with family and friends as possible.

Can you tell us a surprising fact about yourselves?
