You may know Pep & Rash from their massive hit ‘Rumors' as well as their most recent original release ‘Red Roses', but the duo still remains somewhat mysterious. I got the chance to ask them a few questions to get to know them a little bit better. From their latest release, to what they think of the current state of EDM – Get to know Pep & Rash!
Your latest original release ‘Red Roses' has a killer bass line, and is super catchy. What was the process like for creating that track?
“We started with the break. We liked the guitar sound so we made a melody with it. After that we was searching for a break, which was not so easy because the break and the drop are both in major”
Where does your inspiration come from when you start on a track?
“It depends. Sometimes the inspiration comes out of nowhere, Other times the inspiration comes when we listen to music. The shower is also a good place to get some inspiration. So it really can come from anything it just depends on the mood you're in”
How did you both come to producing?
“It started when we were young, we had an interest in music and we wanted to make it ourselves so we decided to give it a try and start making our own music”
How did the name Pep & Rash come about?
“The name Pep comes from Dr pepper. At a young age he drank a lot of Dr Pepper so a lot of people called him D-pep. Rash is a short cut of the name Rashid. So it became Pep & Rash!!”
What are you currently working on? Originals? Collaborations? Remixes?
“We are busy with an original track, we did a remix for Alesso and we have a collab with Sander van Doorn, which we are really proud of”
You guys are one of the top up & coming DJ's/Producers in the game, How do you keep the momentum going and built off of your previous hits while staying grounded and humble?
“Well, we think it’s important to stay who you are, work hard and enjoy what you do! We really enjoy every moment of it”
What are your thoughts on the current state of EDM and where do you think it is headed?
“EDM is so popular at the moment but it’s definitely going to change. Music is always changing. The new sound is a deeper sound with more groovy baselines. We think that EDM is ready for a change and that everybody is ready for a newer sound”
Pep & Rash also just released their remix of Alesso's ‘Sweet Escape'. Be sure to check it out and purchase it on Beatport.
