Dodge & Fuski – Sucker Punch EP

Just released on Never Say Die Records, is the ‘Sucker Punch’ EP from the smashing dubstep duo Dodge & Fuski. Containing a total of 3 tracks, the EP brings the signature ‘Dodge & Fuski’ style with a newly introduced style to dirty dubstep. The first track ‘Sucker Punch’ leads with some heavy growling synths and incredible melodies that will make your roof break. The second track ‘Never Let Me Go’ is more of a glitched up drumstep style which features astonishing vocals and orchestral segments throughout the track. And last but not least is ‘Substance Abuse’, which features some unique haunted melodies and massive hitting basslines. They then add humor to the track by dropping with the two words, “That’s..Catnip.” Dodge & Fuski really hit it on this one, grab your copy of the EP at the link shown below.

That “That’s…Catnip” moment is such a random left turn for a dubstep EP

Dropping a goofy two-word catchphrase in the middle of an EP called Sucker Punch, on a label known for some of the darker, heavier dubstep around, is a fun little reminder that even the most aggressive corners of bass music don’t take themselves too seriously all the time. Little moments like that are part of what made Dodge & Fuski’s stuff stand out beyond just the drops, they had actual personality baked into the production.

Following up their debut EP with something even harder was the right call

Sucker Punch landed just a couple months after Bad Meaning Good, and going from that EP straight into another Never Say Die release shows how quickly the duo was building momentum in 2013. Three tracks might not sound like a lot, but packing a growling lead single, a drumstep cut with actual vocal and orchestral elements, and a genuinely weird haunted-sounding closer into one short EP is a pretty ambitious range for a project this size.

Buying on Beatport instead of just streaming for free meant something different back then

Dropping a Beatport link right alongside the free SoundCloud stream, like this post does, was a pretty standard move for labels wanting fans to actually support the release financially instead of just listening for free. Never Say Die leaning on that dual approach, letting people preview the whole EP while still pointing them toward a purchase link, is a good snapshot of how digital dance music sales still worked before streaming platforms flattened everything into one monthly subscription.
