Exclusive Interview with HollidayRain

Hey HollidayRain,

Great to see you on turntable.fm last night. It's always great to see DJs to hang out with us on that website. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions.

So Hollidayrain, how did you get into DJing?

Well, I've been making music since the age of 10. I started off writing classical music on a midi program because I was bored of not being able to play every instrument in the orchestra myself, but I fell in love with electronic music thanks to Tiesto‘s In Search of Sunrise compilations and Oceanlab. I definitely consider myself a Composer and producer first, but not much beats the feeling of playing out a new track to a crowd and seeing their reaction! I'm excited to see how EDM evolves to include more of a performance element in the immediate future.

Where did you grow up?

I have spent the vast majority of my 20 years in the beautiful state of Colorado, and will be a proud alumnus of the University of Colorado in one month. Also, both of my parents are from India.

What is your favorite song you have produced?

This is a cruel answer, but none of my favorite/best songs have been released yet. As of now, I would say that ‘Need You Back' is my personal favorite original track overall — I think it highlights a lot of my musical strengths and flat out BANGS in the club.

Have you produced with any other popular DJs?

I've had the opportunity to work with some great names in the past year. I've remixed Lazy Rich officially with Paul Anthony as well as TwoThirds, Feint & VEELA twice. Additionally, I made a bootleg remix of ‘Summit' by Skrillex with yh (from MonsterCat Media) that did extremely well on HypeMachine, am currently working with Distantt and Sue Cho on a massive anthem, and have quite a few more collabs in the works that I'm not ready to announce in the works. Big things coming soon!

Which DJs give you the most inspiration?

Gotta give a two part answer to this.
  • Porter Robinson – This is a guy who, musically speaking, thinks remarkably alike to me. I have always been trying to find the perfect marriage between beauty and filth (trance and electro) and my live sets incorporate an outrageous number of bootlegs and mashups. Sound familiar? I'm excited for him.
  • Mat Zo – As a producer, his constantly forward-thinking style is incredibly inspirational. This man is a master of melodies.

What are your goals for this next year?

If all goes well, I hope to continue playing more shows, putting out even more massive tracks, and just generally show the world the full extent of my abilities. I'm excited!

What kind of advice would you give someone who is interested in producing music?

Pay attention to the small details, listen to TONS of music, and most importantly: experiment!

We look forward to your success this next year. Thanks again for taking the time to interview with us.
