Michael Gray has been in the house music trenches since the late ’80s, and he’s still putting out records that matter today. Born and raised in Croydon, London, he grew up around music thanks to his four sisters and a keyboard-playing dad, and he got hooked early after watching a DJ set up equipment at a family gathering. That spark turned into a full-blown career, first as one half of the respected remix and production duo Full Intention, and eventually as a solo force in UK house.

His biggest moment came in 2004 with “The Weekend,” a track that hit number seven on the UK Singles Chart and cracked the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart the following year. It got a serious boost from syncs too, showing up in a Honda commercial and on Ugly Betty, which pushed it well beyond the club crowd. He followed it with “Borderline” featuring Shelly Poole, which climbed to number 12 in the UK — and if you go back further, his remix work on “The Brits 1990 (Dance Medley)” had already hit number two on the UK charts, so the guy had chart pedigree well before “The Weekend” ever dropped.

Gray has kept working steadily in the years since, releasing the album Analog Is On in 2007 and, decades later, Optimism in 2024. His remix résumé is stacked too, with reworks of tracks by Sylvester, Jamiroquai, and Cee Lo Green, including a 2024 remix of Jamiroquai’s “Space Cowboy” that helped him rank as Traxsource’s number one artist of that year. He also put out an educational music production course in 2023, passing along decades of studio knowledge to the next generation of producers.

Between Full Intention Records, his own Sultra Records, and a touring schedule that keeps him internationally active, Michael Gray has managed something a lot of dance producers never pull off — staying genuinely relevant across four decades of house music without ever coasting on old hits.
