Caravan Palace
EDM Artists >> Caravan Palace
Caravan Palace is proof that you don’t need four-on-the-floor kicks and a drop to get a festival crowd moving — sometimes all it takes is a Django Reinhardt-style guitar lick, a swung horn section, and a bassline that hits like a club record. This Paris outfit basically built the electro swing genre into something the wider dance music world actually pays attention to.
The story starts almost by accident: the founding members got together to score music for a silent film, and what came out of those sessions turned into the blueprint for Caravan Palace’s whole sound — vintage jazz and swing recontextualized through electronic production, with obvious fingerprints from Daft Punk and Vitalic sitting right next to Django Reinhardt and Lionel Hampton. They grew from a small crew into a full live band, recruiting singer Zoé Colotis and other performers to bring the sound to the stage, and built buzz the old-fashioned internet way with demos before landing a deal with Wagram Music.
Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2008 and cracked the top of the French charts, moving well past 150,000 copies worldwide — a massive number for a genre that basically didn’t have a commercial lane before they carved one. From there they kept building with “Panic” in 2012 and “Robot Face” in 2015, the album that gave us “Lone Digger,” easily their biggest crossover moment. That track picked up serious TV love, including appearances on “Later… with Jools Holland” and the “Jools’ Annual Hootenanny,” and turned Caravan Palace from a cult favorite into a band people who’d never heard of electro swing suddenly knew by name.
They didn’t slow down from there. “Chronologic” landed in 2019, and the band came back in 2024 with “Gangbusters Melody Club,” proving this isn’t a nostalgia act coasting on one big single — they’re still writing, still touring, and still packing rooms across North America and Europe. Founding members Arnaud de Bosredon and Charles Delaporte remain at the core of the project alongside Colotis on vocals, and their live shows are still one of the most fun, danceable sets you’ll catch outside the typical festival mainstage sound.
If you’ve never caught Caravan Palace live, that’s the move — this is a band that turns a genre most people associate with vintage records into something that absolutely belongs on a festival lineup.
