I'm a big fan of over the ear headphones, so when I received a pair of Audeara A-01 headphones I was ready to hop in and give them a full blown test ride. The Audeara A-01's are a pair of headphones that got their start on Kickstarter by receiving over $450,000 dollars pledged to the campaign. “The world's first full fidelity headphones. Designed by doctors and engineers to give you an experience like never before.” That is the motto behind these headphones, so I dove in and listened to all types of electronic music under the sun and to see if it's an experience like I've never heard before.
Let's start off with the most important part of any pair of headphones, the sound. The sound on these bad boys is pretty good overall. If you just take them out of the box and listen to them, they are a tad bit distorted and a little bit too bass heavy but not in a deep way, more muffled than anything. But out of the box is not how these are made to be used, these are WAYY more advanced than that.
The key to those headphones is to not just take them out and listen to them, the A-01's best and most unique feature is the ability to customize your listening experience by taking a sound test on their app and tailoring the headphones EXACTLY to your ears. You can do a short test (takes about 3 minutes), a medium test (about 5 minutes), or the most detailed test which I took which was about 15 minutes. Yes, the 15 minutes of listening to beeps and bops were pretty boring, but worth it in the long run. Once 100% tailored to my ears I went on Spotify and hit up our New EDM This Week Playlist.
The sound was absolutely great on every genre of EDM I was listening to. I could hear every synth beautifully in trance music, I heard the bass and horns in the trap, and I heard each key of the piano perfectly in my house music.
Once fully tailored, the sound quality of these headphones was absolutely magnificent. Atop of that, the noise canceling option works like a charm. I personally used these while outside mowing my lawn and weed whacking and the noise canceling completely deafened the noise from the tools I was using. This is absolutely amazing as I don't have to blast my headphones up to full volume to drowned out the noise that I'm making which for SURE is good for my ears in the long run. So if you listen for long periods of time in noisy situations, this is a life-changing feature and the A-01's couldn't do a better job at it.
The quality and comfort of these headphones are quite good as well. The headphones themselves are a tad bit tight on my head and I wish they would let me extend them a little bit more. The quality of the earpiece is absolutely spectacular. After wearing them for a few hours I had no issues at all besides a little bit of tightness at the top of my head. My major gripe with the quality of the A-01's are the extremely tiny and cheap feeling plastic buttons on them.
Overall, the Audeara A-01's are a great pair of Bluetooth headphones. Extremely good sound once tailored, high-quality craftsmanship besides the tiny buttons, and above average comfort make these headphones a real joy to use. The Bluetooth works great, the battery lasts a long time, and they give you a boatload of accessories making these headphones useable for almost any situation or connection you have.
