Q&A: Platonick Dive

We've written about rising group Platonick Dive and their music a handful of times now and today I present a short and sweet Q&A we had with the guys (over e-mail). Be sure to check out their latest album Social Habits and below now read through a couple interview questions with the guys! Enjoy.

Hey, how are you?

Hey, we are fine thank you! We just released a new album, so we can’t be happier.

How would you define your sound?

Contemporary and therapeutic music.

Whereabouts in the world are you based?

Our hometown is Livorno, a Tuscan seaside city near Pisa and Florence. We live between Livorno and Milan.

Could you explain music as therapy for us?

We built our career around the notion that music is therapy and by definition, an essential part of our lives and evolution. The latter has served as a form of self-therapy for us and it’s what drives our motivation to help others the same way through our music.

Where did the name Platonick Dive come from?

We always dreamed about a liquid, abstract name for the band. Diving into something is a very deeply form of approach. “Dive” is one of our favorite Nirvana’s song. We add “Platonick” because we wanted something intangible but full of meanings. The “Platonick Dive” is the abstract dive we do everyday into our society.

Do you have a favorite track from the album?

The first singles we released before the album are very significant. “Waxfall”, “Habit” and “Maple” represent at its best the album’s atmosphere.

What are the overarching themes on the album?

Social Habits is a contemporary album in the sense that both the music and message mirror our current reality. It’s the natural continuation of our therapeutic musical journey we started in 2013 with the first album “Therapeutic Portrait” and “Overflow” in 2015. We truly believe in the best of humanity and can’t stand for any abuse of one’s freedoms, so we use our music to speak up against misogyny, homophobia and racism. It’s why we decided to add lyrics to this new album: we wanted to be upfront about the injustices we are currently witnessing on a daily basis. We feel it is our duty as artists, and human beings, to speak truth to power. In addition, you can feel this sense of “rehab” from bad habits and bad things in the whole album.

Do you have any shows coming up?

Yes, of course. We will play some Italian festivals during summertime and we will play an European tour in Autumn. You can take a look at http://www.platonickdive.com/
