Borgore, aka Asaf Borger, is a dubstep producer and DJ who is known for his explicit lyrics and heavy bass lines. Borgore began his career as a drummer in an Israeli death metal band before making the switch to dubstep. His unique style has earned him a loyal following, and he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the genre, including SKisM and 12th Planet. Borgore’s tracks are often characterized by their dark and aggressive sound, and he is often credited with helping to push the boundaries of dubstep. If you’re looking for something different from the usual club fare, then Borgore is definitely worth checking out.

Born Yosef Asaf Borger in Holon, Israel, Borgore didn’t start out behind a laptop — he was the drummer in an Israeli deathcore band called Shabira before making the leap into bass music. That metal background never really left his sound; he’s often credited with pioneering “Gorestep,” a style built on triplet drum patterns, filthy synth work, and a sense of humor that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Borgore’s mainstream breakthrough came with 2012’s “Decisions,” featuring a then-rising Miley Cyrus, which introduced his sound to an audience well beyond the dubstep faithful. He’s kept a steady stream of full-lengths coming ever since, from 2014’s #Newgoreorder to 2019’s The Art of Gore and 2024’s CHIAROSCURO, all released through Buygore Records, the label he built to give himself — and a rotating cast of collaborators — total creative control.

Borgore relocated from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles back in 2012 to chase the scene, but in November 2023, shortly after the birth of his daughter Ellie, he moved back to Israel before later resettling with his family in Hungary. Through it all, Buygore has stayed active, and Borgore remains one of bass music’s most recognizable — and most unapologetically abrasive — characters.
