Hello world! Sorry it’s been a while this time.. We have been missing you all immensely, so we wanted to share something we’ve been working on with you now the sun is shining and the trees are green! A few months ago we stumbled across an amazing female vocalist named @fatoumata_diawara__ . While digging through her discography we discovered this beautiful sample and started messing around, having fun and experimenting with it. The result is our new song, ‘Ultimatum’. A Standalone Single That Kept the Momentum Going
“Ultimatum” arrived as one of several standalone singles Disclosure released in the years after their 2017 hiatus announcement, a stretch where the duo experimented with different vocalists and sounds without rushing to lock everything into an album cycle. Fatoumata Diawara, the Malian singer-songwriter whose sample anchors the track, is a celebrated figure in her own right within West African folk and world music circles, and the pairing gave Disclosure’s sound a warmer, more organic texture than some of their earlier club-focused work.
Singles like “Ultimatum” ended up laying the groundwork for Disclosure’s 2020 album “Energy,” which arrived a couple of years later packed with guest vocalists from across genres. Looking back, this release was a solid example of Guy and Howard Lawrence using their post-hiatus stretch to explore new collaborators at their own pace instead of rushing back into the same formula that made them famous.
