Let the smoke burn!
Los Angeles based mulit-instrumentalist Mayer Hawthorne released “Crime” on his 2013 album “Where Does This Door Go“, with the help of rap connoisseur Kendrick Lamar. This year, self-proclaimed “Master Online Shopper” NYMZ took a crack at the song, (pardon the substance joke) and knocked it out of the park. The original is wonderfully laid back, but doesn't really match the frustrated mood the lyrics portray:
“This is candid camera, there’s no pauses allowed
They don’t understand us because we won’t turn it down
Middle fingers in the air, this is truth and double dare
300 drunk muthaf*ckas in the holding cell.”
But this remix? NAILS it.
You can vividly envision a Project X party being crashed by the police, SWAT, or anyone who hates Marijuana. Kendrick's verse is elevated to a new light, blending seamlessly with the brass stabs and rampant snares. As an individual, I don't partake in drugs of any kind, but I'll be getting high on this song for the rest of the year!
NYMZ a.k.a. Matt Nemethy released this track yesterday for labels Republic and Casablanca (respectively), and it's available for free download at goo.gl/TQV57u.
