Top 10 Electronic Dance Music Moments of 2012

Electronic Dance Music had a great year and as it continues to grow very quickly, there has been many breaking news for the Electronic Dance Music industry for the year 2012. One of our favorite breaking news stories from the year 2012, was the birth of EDM Sauce. That may not be the most breaking news, so we have compiled our Top 10 list of Memorable moments in Electronic Dance Music this year and also just for kicks some of our least favorite moments. Do you remember these taking place?

10. Ellie Goulding and Skrillex Break Up

Ellie Goulding and Skrillex Have Broken Up

The couple that all Electronic Music fans loved together was that of the famous pop singer, Ellie Goulding, and the bad boy of dubstep, Skrillex broke up in mid 2012. It was a sad day for the EDM fans that loved them together, but unfortunately sources confirmed that the couple did indeed split.

 

9. Rusko Will Release His Music For Free

Rusko was so pissed off with his record company for releasing his track early that he decided he was going to release his future music for free. The LA based dubstep and glitch producer gave away his new EP called ‘KAPOW' and all of Rusko's upcoming material was announced to be released for free as well.

8. EDC Las Vegas 2012 sells out with a record breaking 320,000 attendees

EDC 2012

The 3 day festival that took place last June in Las Vegas was one of the biggest festivals ever in the history of Electronic Music. The festival was estimated to bring in over $200 million into Clark County, Nevada. Over 320,000 fans had attended last year's EDC and we can only expect that number to grow in June of 2013.

7. Deadmau5 finds vocals to “The Veldt” on Twitter

While Deadmau5 was Live Streaming, Chris James, reached out to Joel Zimmerman (Deadmau5) while on air telling him to give a listen to the vocals he provided. Joel loved it and wanted to pair the two tracks right away. Deadmau5 even contacted Chris while on air, while they set up the collaboration for “The Veldt.

6. Pendulum decides to permanently split up

Before Knife Party paired up, they were known as the famous group, Pendulum. The former Pendulum member and founder of Knife Party, Rob Swire, said that that because Knife party was so going so well they “don't feel like going back to junior school anytime soon.” As a whole, Pendulum lasted 10 years, so hopefully we can expect Knife Party for another 10 years to come.

5. Armin van Buuren and Deadmau5 Collaboration

On twitter, the Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) reached out to Armin van Buuren stating that they should pair up to make a track together. AVB quickly replied saying he'd love to and they have been share their journey along the way on twitter. It's incredible how far social media has taken us and to see two huge acts pair up together on Twitter is a pretty cool thing to see.

4. MTV VMAs add Best of Electronic Dance Music Video Category

MTV finally recognizes EDM as a category in the awards for VMAs this year for 2012 and the winner of it went to Calvin Harris' “Feel So Close.”

3. Diplo announced for producer of the year, non-classical

This is a big step for EDM as Diplo, a well-known EDM artist, was recognized for producer of the year for not only electronic music, but all producers in every type of genre.

2. Kaskade is the first solo electronic musician to headline The Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA

Kaskade Staples CenterThe honor of hosting at The Staples Center, usually goes to acts like Rihanna, Spice Girls and Taylor Swift, but Kaskade is the first solo electronic musician to headline The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. He played an impressive set and made history as the event was live streamed for all of us to see.

 

1. Swedish House Mafia announce their breakup and One Final Tour

The saddest news to us is that Swedish House Mafia announces their breakup. Swedish House Mafia has created some of the best songs in EDM history including “Greyhound,” “Don't You Worry Child,” “One” and “Save The World.”  Fortunately Swedish House Mafia announced they will do a world tour called ‘One Final Tour.'
