Kap Slap is the mashup mastermind who turned a random night at a frat party into a full-blown DJ career. Real name Jared Lucas, he grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and was still a student at Lehigh University when he watched a DJ blend two songs together at a party and thought, “I could do that.” What started as a hobby turned serious after his junior year in 2011, and he’s been stitching EDM anthems together with mainstream radio hits ever since.

Kap Slap’s whole thing is the mashup mix — hour-long, continuously blended sets that take Top 40 hits and drop them into club-ready EDM structure. It’s a format built for road trips, workouts, and pregames, and Kap Slap has become one of the genre’s most reliable names within it. His breakout moment came with “Let It All Out” in 2015, which cracked the top 20 on iTunes’ dance chart and racked up over a million plays. That same year, his “Spring Break Mix 2015” became his biggest release yet, pulling in more than 3 million plays on SoundCloud, while his “Summer Mix 2015” cleared a million plays on its own.

He signed his debut single to Ultra Music in January 2015 and backed it up with a 20-city Breakout Tour, selling out rooms like Webster Hall in New York City along the way. Festival stages took notice too, with Spring Awakening and Paradiso Festival both booking him for their lineups.

More than a decade in, Kap Slap has kept the mashup engine running without slowing down, staying a fixture on SoundCloud and Beatport with fans tracking every new drop on 1001Tracklists. He’s built a career out of a skill that sounds simple on paper — take two great songs and make them one better song — but is genuinely hard to pull off consistently. Kap Slap has made it look easy for years, whether he’s flipping the latest chart-topper into a festival-ready edit or reviving old favorites for a fresh crowd. In a scene full of one-off viral mashups, he’s one of the few artists who turned it into a lasting brand.
