Borgore Dropped A Six-Track Piano Jazz EP Today, And It’s Pretty Awesome

Growing up, I think we all heard the old adage, “Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover”. Today that saying proves truer than ever as Borgore, the man who broke the dance music industry when he released a new song on Pornhub last August, has just released a six-track piano jazz album. Yes, I am like, entirely serious.

While many are most familiar with Borgore for his head splitting dubstep tunes and raunchy lyrics, Borgore is also a classically trained musician. Today we get to see a different side of Borgore, and it actually is pretty inspired. While it was entirely unexpected, this EP, ‘Adventures In Time’ is some easy listening.

Complex melodies and unique chord progressions on the piano melt beautifully with the simple drum lines and stand up bass support lines. Borgore is full of surprises and for the first time I think ever, I can say that this surprise is quite wholesome. Yeah, The Pornhub Thing Was Real Too

For anyone who missed it, that Pornhub reference isn’t an exaggeration. Back in August 2017, Borgore partnered directly with the adult site to premiere the music video for his single “Savages,” making him one of the first major dance music acts to release a video through that platform. It was a deliberately shocking, attention-grabbing move that fit his brand of raunchy, in-your-face dubstep perfectly.

Which is exactly why ‘Adventures In Time’ landing less than a year later felt so jarring, and honestly kind of great. Borgore trained classically on piano well before he ever touched a dubstep drop, so a stripped-down, six-track jazz record isn’t some random gimmick, it’s closer to a return to where he actually started musically. Going from a Pornhub premiere to a quiet jazz EP within the same year says a lot about how much range the guy actually has behind the shock-value persona.

A Pattern Of Genre-Hopping

This isn’t the first time Borgore has zigzagged across genres just to prove he can. He’s dabbled in trap, moombahton, and straight-up pop production over the years under his own name and various side projects, always with the same underlying logic: dubstep pays the bills and headlines the festival stages, but it was never the only thing he had in his toolbox. An acoustic jazz record built around piano, drums, and stand-up bass is about as far from a festival mainstage drop as you can get, and that contrast is exactly what makes ‘Adventures In Time’ worth a listen even if you’ve never cared about his heavier material.
