David Guetta Brings Out Sean Paul & Becky G at Ultra 2018

David Guetta has done more for the electronic music scene than many of his peers combined. Despite producing some of today’s biggest pop and electronic songs, David Guetta lacks respect from the masses time after time again. It’s a weird spot to be in — the guy basically helped build the bridge between EDM and mainstream pop radio, and yet he still gets treated by some corners of the scene like he’s not a “real” DJ. Sets like this one are exactly the kind of thing that should shut that argument down.
For the 20th anniversary of Ultra Music Festival, David Guetta threw down an incredibly diverse set. Twenty years is a massive milestone for any festival, let alone one as influential as Ultra, and Guetta clearly treated his slot on the Main Stage like the occasion it was — packing in career highlights alongside brand new material and a couple of massive guest appearances to keep the Bayfront crowd locked in.
In addition to playing out his new song with Sia titled “Flames,” David Guetta brought out Becky G and Sean Paul to perform “Mad Love.” Bringing out the actual featured artists live, rather than just dropping the studio version into the mix, is always a crowd-pleaser — it turns a normal DJ set moment into something people are going to be talking about for the rest of the weekend. So let’s pay our respect, where respect is due and watch this clip from David Guetta’s 2018 Ultra Music Festival live set.

Between the anniversary weight of Ultra’s 20th year and a guest list stacked with genuine hitmakers, this was one of the sets people are still going to be referencing the next time someone tries to argue Guetta doesn’t belong at the top of the bill. Say what you want about the pop crossovers, but pulling off a Main Stage set at Ultra with this kind of energy, twenty years into the festival’s run, isn’t something just anyone can do.
