HOVERBOOTS Exclusive Guest Mix & Interview [The Recipe Volume 015]

HOVERBOOTS is a pretty well known name in the underground Bass music scene. Known for some killer collabs, reboots, & great originals he is an artist on the way up. We got the chance to interview HOVERBOOTS as well as get a sick guest mix LOADED with ID's from the man himself. Check them both out below & follow him on all social/streaming platforms!

Where did the name Hoverboots come from?
– The Hover Boots are an item in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which is easily my favorite game of all time!
What got you into bass music/EDM & who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?
– Well I'd be lying if I didn't say Skrillex's music was what got me into all of this. So many other artists have also been a huge influence for me before and after I got into  dance music, but if I had to narrow it down to the most important I'd say: Mr. Carmack, Timbaland, Flying Lotus, Daft Punk and Aphex Twin.
How would you describe your sound to someone whose never heard you before?
– I feel like its very difficult (and sort of pretentious) to describe my own music. I can only describe what I'm trying to express as opposed to how the end product is perceived by the listeners. Everyone will experience my music differently and have their own description of it.
If you could play any venue b2b with any DJ, where/who would you choose?
– Low End Theory b2b with Flying Lotus would be a dream come true!
Thanks for the mix! What goes into making a mix like this, and what are some songs in this mix that stand out to you?
– There's a song here called “Creepin” by the super talented Shades that I believe represents a new frontier for bass music. There are a lot of great artists coming from the Soundcloud beat scene that are creating music in a similar vein that's really pushing the envelope. These guys are making some of the most exciting stuff I've heard in a long time.
What are some things you like to do in spare time when not making music?
– If I'm not making music i'm most likely playing video games. And sometimes when I should be making music i'm playing video games too haha.
What does the summer have in store for you?
– I'm not big on festivals so probably none of those, but a vacation to the beach and more music are on my to-do list!
Favorite home-cooked meal?
– Definitely my fiancé's tacos.
Favorite Junk Food?
– This is a tough one but if we are talking candy, it's gotta be white chocolate reeses.
