Major Lazer To Collaborate With Badshah & Sciptonite On New Singles

Following the release Major Lazer’s new album Know No Better, Major Lazer appear to be working on more new music. On Sunday (June 11th), Major Lazer uploaded a video to Facebook that they are working on a new single with Indian artist Badshah and the Russian rapper Scriptonite.

The collaboration between Major Lazer and Badshah/Scriptonite comes as part of a new music campaign for Tuborg. The campaign called Tuborg OPEN aims to encourage music fans to explore and discover sounds from around the world. While there’s not much information on the releases, Major Lazer will use a beat that they created for Tuborg as the basis for each one of the different collaborations.

A little more on how this whole campaign is structured: Tuborg OPEN is built around a single Major Lazer-produced beat that gets reinterpreted by a different artist in a different market, rather than one finished song getting a simultaneous worldwide release. Badshah, one of India’s biggest mainstream rap and Bollywood-adjacent artists, is positioned as one of the collaborators bringing his own spin to that shared foundation, while Scriptonite brings a Russian hip-hop perspective to the same underlying production. It’s a clever format for a brand campaign — global consistency in the beat itself, with each artist’s regional flavor layered on top.

This isn’t Badshah’s first rodeo with cross-border collaborations either. He’d already teamed up with Scriptonite once before, back in April 2017, so pairing the two of them under the same Tuborg umbrella again makes sense given they clearly have chemistry to build on.

For Major Lazer, this campaign lands at a genuinely busy moment. Know No Better, their most recent release, dropped as a six-track EP in June 2017 and leaned heavily into the group’s now-signature mix of dancehall, moombahton, and pop songwriting, with the title track alone pulling in features from Travis Scott, Quavo, and Camila Cabello. Jumping into a brand-driven, globally-minded project like Tuborg OPEN right on the heels of that release fits Major Lazer’s broader identity as a group that’s just as interested in connecting scenes and sounds across borders as they are in chart success — Diplo, Walshy Fire, and Jillionaire have built the project’s whole ethos around that kind of cross-pollination since day one.

We still don’t have a confirmed release date or title for the actual Badshah/Scriptonite collaboration, so we’re treating this as developing news rather than a done deal. But given how much buzz Major Lazer generates with even a teaser video, expect the finished track — whatever form it ends up taking — to make plenty of noise once it does surface.

Stay tuned for more details surrounding this release as they come in.
