Before you read on, understand that as I write this there are more feels rushing through my body than there was post Junior prom. The reason? Henry Steinway AKA RL Grime has spoken. Just hours after providing some lucky fans with some insight to his forthcoming project/chapter, “Nova”, RL Grime is dropping a track. God that wasn’t climactic enough… He is dropping a track, not only with more feels than Junior Prom, but this is on some Church level-ish.
“Stay For It” has a holy-feel with the insane vocals of Miguel (voice of an Angel). Combined that with a spooky base Piano and a drop that you’re going to want to see live and you have a masterpiece. When I popped this on, it solidified the notion (in my mind) that RL Grime rules Trap and his originality is just bar-none.
This isn’t your mainstream Trap track, so don’t expect “wookie, wookie’s” and “hood rap” (don’t get me wrong, I love that to) but this is art. Any artist that can bring in a guy like Miguel and put together one of the most beautifully crafted compositions of the year thus far without pushing progressive has a special place in my heart. So as I sit here, listening to this for the 17th time in a row, it’s probably time to share.
Lastly, if I still have you, I’m going to leave you guys with this and just stop typing because there really isn’t a picture that I can paint to describe what’s to come from the Don (snip it from the Final Studio Session with Miguel at bottom). Below is an excerpt from his letter to fans (I’m a sucker for this stuff):
“I’m calling this journey Nova. Nova will define and encompass every part of the RL Grime project over the coming years. More than just an album, or a show, or a single narrative, I want the Nova project to create spaces where you can feel part of the process. So it won’t just be me setting the storyline. Your input and the way you engage with my music and performance has always driven me forward,” – RL Grime
