Diplo’s Super Bowl Event Was Shut Down Early By The Cops

Leave it to Diplo to turn Super Bowl weekend into its own main event. Rolling Stone’s annual Super Bowl bash took over the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston this year, just a short drive from NRG Stadium where the Falcons and Patriots were about to play one of the wildest games in Super Bowl history. With that kind of energy already buzzing through the city, it’s no surprise the party got a little out of hand.

Diplo’s pre-Super Bowl show was shut down a bit earlier than expected.

The rapper/DJ/singer, didn’t get to his DJ decks until about 1am at the Rolling Stone event. Evidently, it appears that Diplo played past the event’s official wrap time. The police moved in quickly to shut it down in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A video clip (seen below) shows an officer taking the Mic out of Diplo’s hands and telling the crowd to “start moving out” as the lights were turned on.

Diplo didn’t seem to upset by it as one of the fans asked “How does it feel, you just shut down the Super Bowl party?” Diplo responded by saying “I hope I just warmed up the Falcons tomorrow.”

Funny enough, the Falcons did come out of the gate hot, jumping out to a 28-3 lead before the Patriots pulled off their now-legendary overtime comeback to win Super Bowl LI. So Diplo technically got half his prediction right — he just didn’t stick around Houston long enough to see how the second half played out.

This also isn’t the only time Diplo has had a set cut short by venue curfews or local law enforcement. Between afterparties, pool sets, and packed club nights, the guy has built up a reputation for pushing a night as far as it can possibly go before someone pulls the plug, and Super Bowl weekend in Houston was apparently no exception. If anything, getting your mic taken by a cop mid-set is basically a badge of honor at this point in his career.
