Avicii’s New Album Mini-Mix Leaks

You’ve heard “The Days,” “The Nights,” and “Waiting for Love” enough times. Time for some new Avicii material. October 2nd is the day fans will finally hear Stories, Avicii’s second studio album, but it seems the world couldn’t wait that long. A short promo mix for the forthcoming work has crept its way onto social media, and hardcore Avicii fans worldwide can’t get enough of it. Those that haven’t been following the “Levels” star’s every move will hear a variety of new material in the mix, while diehards will find brand new vocal tweaks to tracks they’ve been waiting so long for, including “City Lights” and “True Believer.” But don’t take my word for it – check the mix out below.

Stories has had one of the more drawn-out rollouts of the year, and honestly that’s part of what’s made it so exciting to follow. Avicii has been chipping away at pieces of this album for what feels like forever now, previewing chunks of it during his UMF 2015 set months back and slowly rolling out singles like “Waiting for Love” and “Pure Grinding” in the meantime. With a guest list that reportedly includes names like Zac Brown and Matisyahu, plus Chris Martin of Coldplay lending vocals to “True Believer,” this record is shaping up to pull from a lot more corners of the musical map than True ever did.

It’s worth remembering just how far Avicii has come since “Levels” first blew up — Stories finds him leaning even harder into songwriting and live instrumentation rather than sticking to a strictly club-focused sound, which has been a defining shift in his career over the past couple years. That range is exactly what makes a mini-mix leak like this one so much fun to pick apart, since it hints at how all these different flavors are going to sit next to each other on the finished tracklist.

A leak like this is exactly the kind of thing that gets a fanbase buzzing before an album even officially drops. It’s just enough of a taste to send people into full speculation mode over tracklist order, which versions of songs made the final cut, and how the mixes will differ from what’s already been previewed live. With the album less than two weeks out at this point, the wait is almost over, and if this promo mix is any indication, Stories is going to be worth every bit of the hype that’s built up around it.
