2014 was a massive year for Opiuo after the release of his album “Meraki” which received worldwide acclaim. A native Kiwi who now resides in Australia, he was awarded Best Electronic Album at the New Zealand Music Awards last year as well. Known for “funkadelic bass music,” his sound and style has shown its promise continually over the years. 2015 marks a new era with the evolution of his band, following Opiuo's two sold out solo dates in Canada this past week.
Now the Opiuo Band looks to push the funky, musical revolution even further with ten (and counting) tour dates set this year in the U.S., primed for the next show at Lightning in a Bottle Festival in Bradley, CA at the end of May.
“The beauty of live music for me is really exciting things happen,” Opiuo states in the promo video below. “Especially with a live audience that's tapped into the vibe that you're on. It's that combined risk and challenge that make it so much more exciting and endlessly rewarding when you nail it.”
Taking this electronic base into production has been an impressive creative endeavor. You can see Opiuo typically with drum sticks in hand during his live sets and now the addition of a full band completes his approach into something special.
