When I heard Cash Cash was coming to Miami, I instantly jumped at the chance to see them. Instead of playing one of the big 3 (LIV, Story, or Mansion), they set up shop at Grand Central, one of Miami's top mid-size event spaces for concerts with a warehouse type feel to it. I must say that personally, I do sometimes enjoy taking a break from the club scene to check out my favorite DJ/producer. No dress code or fancy bottle service, just dedication to the music with all of the focus on the performance in a no-frills environment.
The hours of the event were listed as 9:00-1:00, so I figured Cash Cash would be set to play at 11:30. Turns out I was wrong… To my surprise, they hit the decks at 10:30 while I was enjoying a break on the patio. I could hear the faint sound of “take me hoooooome” in the background, so I grabbed my friends and rushed inside.
From originals to remixes, collaborations to mash-ups, these guys have their set nailed down to near perfection. Everything they mixed was perfectly in- tune with my musical desires. Earlier in the set they dropped their original track “Satellites” mixed with the vocals from “I Could Be the One”. I have been kvelling about this track for some time now since it just gives off this incredible feel-good energy that hits you like a freight train every time.
Shortly after, they switched things up and tried to take us to “Rehab” with the late Amy Winehouse‘s classic track mixed in with New World Sound's recently released banger “Pineapple”.
They even tested some some new material on us as well. This track sounds like it will be an instant banger upon release, so keep on the look out!
Veering away again from EDM, they threw down Khia's throw back jam, “My Neck, My Back”, only to return by dropping their insane edit “Show Me Your Friends”, consisting of classics “We Are Your Friends” and the Oliver Heldens remix of “Show Me Love”.
Cash Cash showcased a number of other notable mashups. The first being “Bullet”, their latest collaboration with Adrian Lux, mixed with the vocals from Passion Pit's “Carried Away. Their top notch remix of Bruno Mars‘ “Treasure” received a 90's dance music makeover with the addition of vocals from “Rhythm of the Night”, along with their smash hit “Overtime” mixed with the vocals of “Sweet Vibrations”.
And let's not forget about their original tracks that had everyone in attendance singing verbatim. I knew instantly the first time I heard “Take Me Home” that Cash Cash were on their way to the top. Bebe Rexha's stellar vocals provide the perfect accompaniment to their energy driven progressive sound, helping them pave the way to superstardom with this popular track. More recently, Cash Cash collaborated with Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznick for their latest track “Lighting” resulting in a great big room track that is sure make its way around the festival circuit this summer.
The crowd was lit up the entire time thanks to energy displayed in the DJ booth. Their song selection was unparalleled and kept me moving the entire time. Even the few people in my group who hadn't experienced many DJ shows had an incredible time. Cash Cash has the innate ability to connect with the crowd, thereby maximizing the overall experience for all in attendance. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out if you haven't already. Bring your friends, family, or whoever the hell you want to guarantee an awesome time to.
Special thanks to Kendall Bowen Photography for providing some incredible shots of the night. Another thanks to Grand Central for providing a great venue to Cash Cash and their fans.
