Where oh where to put all the vinyl records?! A stack of 90 records are roughly 12×12 inches overall. That said, how many of the digital DJs have over ten thousand songs or more?! Which independent record shops have thousands of vinyl records? How many records do you own as a vinyl DJ? Ikea is bringing back a great shelving unit for exactly that need. Being a collector and vinyl DJ at heart, I have two towers full of the plastic. Ikea was definitely my one stop shop for vinyl storage. Clean, functional and sturdy is why I purchased, hauled and assembled the towers. They fit perfectly and each square is roughly 12x12x12. PERFECT.
Ikea discontinued the 16 cube shelving unit but why? Well, it could be the reason of Ikea using nearly 1% of the World's wood supply. So now, Ikea is releasing a new 16 cube vinyl storage or generic shelving unit in June. Less material is part of the redesign. I hope it can hold the weight of 1600 vinyl records with the reduction of material though.
