Baauer Making It Rain New Tracks On His Tour
The trap music mogul, Baauer, just announced on facebook that on the rest of his fall tour he will literally make it rain unreleased original Baauer tracks on his fans. The tour started in Iowa on Oct. 20th, is currently in Cali and making plenty of stops in the southeast with a supporting cast of AraabMuzik, DJ Sliink, Mr. Carmack and S-Type. The tour recently added a date in our nation’s capitol after selling out the famous U Street Music Hall. If you want to be one of the first to hear some of Baauer’s new tracks I suggest you get within throwing range of the stage because Baauer will be throwing USB flash drives loaded with his music into the crowd. And if your lucky enough to catch one of these flash drives, don’t be greedy, be sure to share with everyone. I’m sure all his fans are eager to see what Baauer has up his sleeve. This whole USB stunt landed at the perfect moment for Baauer. Just months earlier, “Harlem Shake” had turned him from a relatively unknown Brooklyn producer into a household name, topping charts and soundtracking a viral meme that took over the internet. Instead of coasting on that single, he used the fall tour as a chance to remind everyone he was still a trap producer at heart, one with a backlog of unreleased material he was excited enough about to literally throw into the crowd.
Fans didn’t stay patient for long, either. Within days of the tour kicking off, tracks from those flash drives started popping up online, ripped and shared by whoever managed to catch one, exactly the kind of grassroots spread Baauer seemed to be counting on when he told everyone not to be greedy with what they found.
Looking back, the stunt fits neatly into the arc of Baauer’s career. Rather than chase another Harlem Shake-sized crossover moment, he spent the next few years quietly building toward his debut album, Aa, which finally arrived in 2016 on LuckyMe with features from Future, G-Dragon, M.I.A., and Pusha T. It was a deliberately un-EDM record, built on texture and imperfection rather than festival-ready drops, and it traced its roots back to scrappy, DIY moments like this one, where new music reached fans through a thrown USB stick before it ever reached a proper release date.
