Hell Yea – my morning commute is awesome.
When it’s barely light outside, I stumble to my car, jack up the heat, and then start the ‘sitting in traffic’ portion of my day. Ironically these are probably the most productive hours of my morning – I argue with myself about the meaning of life and I yell obscenities at other people. This is obviously more fun than the rest of my day, where I am a corporate drone. One of the reasons the commute is so sweet is the fist pounding, heart-rhythm altering bass filled music. Because just sitting there is lame, check my playlist.

Every single cut on this list comes from that early-2010s stretch when dubstep and complextro were colliding head-on and turning festival mainstages into full-on bass assaults. Knife Party’s “AnonymousFM VIP Mix” comes courtesy of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, the same duo who spent years fronting drum & bass legends Pendulum before flipping the script entirely and becoming one of the most influential acts in the dubstep/electro-house crossover scene. The Bloody Beetroots, the masked Italian duo behind “Chronicles of a Fallen Love” (featuring vocalist Greta Svabo Bech), built their whole aesthetic around chaotic, distortion-heavy electro that made them festival and runway regulars alike. Feed Me — the alias of UK producer Jon Gooch — brings his signature glitchy, melodic bass sound with “One Click Headshot,” while Porter Robinson, here showing up on the Downlink remix of “100% in the Bitch,” was still a few years out from the more emotionally-driven, melodic sound that would define his later work. Round it out with Birdy Nam Nam’s turntablist-rooted electro cut “Goin In” (given the Skrillex “Going Hard” remix treatment) and Savoy’s live-instrumentation banger “We Are the Sun,” and you’ve basically got a snapshot of exactly what was blowing up car speakers and festival grounds back in 2013.
