Alok & Alan Walker Team Up For Melodic Gem "Headlights" With KIDDO

On February 18, 2022, Alok, Alan Walker and KIDDO built a trifecta of brilliance on the commercial smash “Headlights” — the first original collaboration between the Brazilian superstar and the Norwegian hitmaker, released through Alok’s own Controversia imprint. It was a pairing fans of both camps had speculated about for years: two of the most-streamed electronic artists on the planet, each with a signature melodic identity, finally sharing a track.

Captivating with a palatial introductory beat that tiptoes with its synth-line melody, that then in turn is punctuated with militant-style drums that demand attention, the pulsating tempo pushes and pulls in the listener. As KIDDO’s far-reaching and depthy vocal tone adds a richness and a complex dexterity, each artists presence is felt to concoct the stunning production that evolves with each listen.

What the Artists Said

Speaking on the track, ALOK stated: “I’m super excited to be collaborating with Alan on our first original collaboration and this time on my Controversia imprint makes it feel all the more special! We worked together to bring our signature sounds into the fold for our fans and having KIDDO’s unique vocal also on this release added something so distinctive and fresh.”

Speaking on the release, Walker said: “This is the first time around working on a project with Alok, and I couldn’t be happier to be collaborating. Being able to create music alongside other DJs and talented singers like Kiddo, who’s unique voice perfectly fit this track, is always a pleasure. It has truly been a fun process combining our styles into this song and I can’t wait to continue experimenting!”

The Collaboration

On paper, the pairing made perfect sense. Alok had spent the preceding years transforming from a Brazilian bass phenomenon into a genuinely global act, with “Hear Me Now” and a run of melodic crossover singles establishing him among the most-followed DJs in the world. Alan Walker, meanwhile, had built one of electronic music’s most durable brands on the back of “Faded” and its melancholic, vocal-driven successors. “Headlights” split the difference between their styles — Alok’s warm, organic-leaning groove sensibility fused with Walker’s cinematic melodic architecture.

The connective tissue was KIDDO, the French-Swedish singer and songwriter whose vocal carried the record. Far from a session feature, KIDDO shared writing credits on the track alongside a deep bench of Scandinavian pop craftsmen from Walker’s camp — the kind of writing-room pedigree that explained why the song functioned as cleanly on pop radio as it did in a festival set. An official music video, directed by Diego Locatelli and Mads Holm Neset, followed shortly after release.

A Second Life

“Headlights” performed solidly on release, racking up hundreds of millions of streams as a staple of both artists’ catalogs and live sets. But the song’s story didn’t end in 2022. Years after its release, “Headlights” found a massive second life in 2026 as it surged across TikTok and YouTube Shorts, where its instantly recognizable synth line and KIDDO’s hook became soundtrack material for a new wave of short-form content. It’s a fate that has met a growing number of dance records in the streaming era — but one that only tracks with genuinely sticky melodic DNA ever achieve.

For Alok and Walker, the collaboration proved to be a foundation rather than a one-off — and for Controversia, it remains one of the label’s defining releases: proof that Alok’s imprint could be a home for A-list collaborations, not just a vehicle for his own singles.
