Mazare Drops A Melodic Drum and Bass Song : Nothing More

Mazare & Luma have combined to create a wonderful melodic drum step track titled Nothing More. Luma brings her remarkable voice to the table where Mazare and his drum and bass production skills combine to make yet another massive dnb track. I was first turned on to Mazare after hearing Seven Lions mash up the Vorwerk & Mazare track One That I Needed with his track Don’t Leave during EDC17 and I was hooked. Secondly, and more impressive, was the unbelievable Mazare remix of the Seven Lions track Dreaming that can be heard HERE.

Nothing More starts off with synths that set a Porter Robinson type of tone. Luma’s vocals mix with the etheric vibe creating a beautiful melody. During the build you can hear the snare drum start to define the track taking from a melodic track to the much-overlooked genre of dnb. As you race through the drop filled with thumping kicks and tight snares the melody is what drives this song. Do yourself a favor and keep an ear out for what Mazare is putting out, you can start by listening to Nothing More below.

Mazare’s Growing Reputation in Melodic Bass Music

Mazare had spent the years leading up to “Nothing More” quietly building a reputation as one of the more melodically ambitious producers working in and around the drum and bass space, frequently drawing comparisons to Seven Lions and Illenium for his ability to pair heavy low end with genuinely emotional chord progressions. His prior remix work, especially the widely praised rework of Seven Lions’ “Dreaming,” had already demonstrated a knack for taking someone else’s melodic foundation and rebuilding it around a punchier rhythmic structure, a skill that carried directly into original productions like this one.

Luma’s Vocal Contribution

Luma’s vocal performance on “Nothing More” gave the track an ethereal, almost fragile quality that contrasted sharply with the drum and bass low end underneath it, a combination that had become something of a signature approach for melodic dnb releases on labels like Monstercat during this period. Pairing a delicate, pop-leaning vocal with an aggressive rhythmic backbone let the song work on two levels at once, appealing to melodic dubstep and future bass fans as much as it did to listeners coming from the harder-edged drum and bass scene.

Drum and Bass’s Slow Climb in North America

Drum and bass had long been treated as something of a niche genre in North American dance music compared to its dominant status across the UK and parts of Europe, but tracks like “Nothing More” were part of a slow but steady shift as melodic, festival-friendly dnb started gaining traction on labels like Monstercat. By softening the genre’s typically breakneck tempo and aggressive breakbeats with radio-ready songwriting and lush synth work, producers like Mazare helped make drum and bass feel more approachable to fans who had come up on melodic dubstep and future bass rather than the genre’s jungle and breakbeat roots.
