Axwell Teases The Upcoming Release Of New Swedish House Mafia Music In BBC Interview

Axwell debuted his latest single last week on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. During the reveal of ‘Nobody Else’, the iconic producer sat down for an interview with the radio legend. Of course, the topic of Swedish House Mafia came up during the conversation. When Annie Mac asked about new music from the trio, the producer answered candidly – “of course it’s coming”, he said with total confidence.

‘Nobody Else’ itself was a big deal on its own – it marked Axwell’s first solo record in about two years, so the BBC Radio 1 slot doubled as both a comeback moment for him personally and an update on where the group stood.

The new music from Swedish House Mafia comes at a time where excitement around the group is higher than it has ever been. The guys had begun announcing world tour dates and locking down appearances in their native Sweden, Mexico City and most recently Creamfields in the UK.

Common sense said the music would be released before they returned to the stage in mid-2019, but at that point no official information on the tracks had been released outside of confirmation that they were in the works.

Will Swedish House Mafia return to their signature style? Or take a more modern day approach with their productions? Only time would tell, and for now – we waited.

So Did the New Music Actually Show Up?

Turns out Axwell wasn’t just being polite. It just took a while. Swedish House Mafia’s real comeback single, “It Gets Better,” dropped in July 2021 – their first new original release in almost nine years, and proof the trio was serious about coming back as a unit rather than just teasing it forever. A year later, in 2022, they followed it up with a full studio album, “Paradise Again,” backed by a massive run of festival headline sets.

So the “of course it’s coming” line from that BBC Radio 1 chat didn’t turn into an immediate drop – but the sentiment held up. Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso genuinely had music in the works back in late 2018. It just needed a few more years, and a couple more solo detours from each member, to actually land.
