Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia is a Swedish DJ and production trio consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group was formed in 2008 and officially announced their break-up in 2013. Despite their short-lived career, Swedish House Mafia became one of the most successful electronic music groups of all time. They achieved mainstream success with their hit single “Don’t You Worry Child” and went on to headline some of the world’s biggest music festivals, including Coachella and Ultra Music Festival. In 2018, they reunited for a tour that included sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and a performance at Ultra Music Festival. Today, Swedish House Mafia is considered one of the most influential electronic music groups of all time.

Before they were one of the biggest names in dance music, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso were already grinding it out as solo DJs on the Swedish house scene going back to the late ’90s. Once the three of them locked in together, Swedish House Mafia clicked almost instantly. By 2010 they were everywhere, dropping “One (Your Name)” with Pharrell Williams and “Miami 2 Ibiza” with Tinie Tempah back to back, two records that basically rewrote what a festival anthem could sound like.

Then came the run that turned them into legends. “Save the World” with John Martin hit the UK top ten in 2011, and “Don’t You Worry Child” the following year gave them their first, and only, UK number one. Both tracks landed on their 2012 album Until Now, which cracked the Billboard 200’s top 15. By that point Swedish House Mafia weren’t just a group, they were a genre-defining act, headlining Coachella and Ultra and packing arenas around the world.

And then, right at the peak, they walked away. The trio announced they were splitting in 2012 and closed things out with the “One Last Tour,” a farewell run that wrapped at Ultra Miami on March 24, 2013. It was heavy, emotional, and honestly kind of unheard of for a group at the top of their game to just stop. The documentary Leave the World Behind captured the goodbye when it premiered at SXSW in 2014.

Except it wasn’t really the end. Five years later, Swedish House Mafia strolled back onstage completely unannounced at Ultra Miami’s 20th anniversary in March 2018, and the crowd lost it. That surprise reunion kicked off years of teasing, one-off shows, and studio sessions that finally paid off with Paradise Again in April 2022, their first true studio album. It went straight to number one on the dance charts in both the UK and US, and gave the world “Moth to a Flame” with The Weeknd and “Redlight” with Sting, proof they could keep pushing the sound forward instead of just replaying the hits.

They haven’t slowed down since. SHM launched their own label and creative hub, Superhuman, with “Wait So Long” as its first release, teamed up with The Weeknd again for a track on his special edition album, and played sold-out nights in Brooklyn and at Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2025. Now they’re gearing up for what they’re calling their biggest show yet, a homecoming date at Ullevi Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden, in front of 43,000 fans. More than fifteen years in, Swedish House Mafia are still the group everyone else in dance music measures themselves against.
