Illenium opened up about his past struggles with addiction this week. In a heartfelt letter to fans, he explained that his new single was an ode to those who helped him get out of his addiction – specifically his parents.
With the backstory alone, it is obvious that this record contains a lot of intense emotions. But upon listening to the way Illenium arranged the track I was simply blown away. As someone who is in recovery from drug addiction, I understand the difficult strain the disease puts on families.
Illenium fills the track with euphoric and inspiring highs, as well as moments of despair as the beat fades away. He truly created a sonic representation of what it is like to try and get sober.
