David Guetta Announces New Single With Anne-Marie And Drops Lenny Kravitz Remix

David Guetta seemingly never stops. The legendary French producer has been dropping new singles left and right so far in 2018. Now though David has dropped what might be the biggest news for him in 2018 so far, a collaboration with rising talent Anne Marie. Most are familiar with the vocalist from her collaboration with Marshmello, ‘Friends’.

The track will be dropping at some point on Thursday, but so far it has not been uploaded to digital streaming services. That being said, Guetta has more new music for fans today in the form of an official remix for Lenny Kravtiz.

I am always a bit wary of producers remixing tracks outside of dance music. It can always go really south really fast. That being said, Guetta really hit a home run on this rework. He injects the perfect amount of energy into the song and it just inherently works perfectly. Check out the new remix below as well as a snippet of his collaboration with Anne Marie.

The Anne-Marie Track Became “Don’t Leave Me Alone”

The single teased here ended up dropping as “Don’t Leave Me Alone,” and it went on to become one of Guetta’s bigger commercial hits of that era, charting well beyond the usual dance music bubble. Anne-Marie was still riding the wave from “Friends” with Marshmello at this point, and pairing her with someone as commercially proven as Guetta made a ton of sense — she brought pop songwriting sensibility and a distinct vocal tone, while Guetta brought the production polish and the built-in audience of one of the most recognizable names in the genre.

Remixing an artist as far outside dance music as Lenny Kravitz is also a genuinely risky move, and it’s worth appreciating why. Rock and dance music fans don’t always overlap, and a bad remix can alienate both sides at once — the original fanbase feels like their song got hijacked, and the dance crowd doesn’t care about the source material to begin with. Guetta pulling it off says something about his instincts as a producer even decades into his career; he’s been doing this since the early 2000s and clearly still knows how to find the groove hiding inside a song that wasn’t built for a dancefloor in the first place.

Guetta’s Career Longevity Is Kind Of Wild When You Sit With It

Think about how much dance music itself changed between when Guetta broke through in the early 2000s and 2018 — full genre cycles came and went, French house gave way to EDM’s mainstream boom, and that boom itself had already started cooling off by the time this single dropped. Most producers don’t survive one of those shifts, let alone several. Guetta kept landing hits by basically refusing to stay in one lane: French touch, then big-room, then pure pop crossovers with whoever the vocalist of the moment happened to be. “Don’t Leave Me Alone” fits that pattern perfectly, since Anne-Marie was about as of-the-moment as it got in 2018.

There’s also something to be said for how these Anne-Marie/Marshmello/Guetta-style pairings became their own little ecosystem around this time. Pop vocalists with viral crossover hits kept getting scooped up by dance producers looking for that same lightning-in-a-bottle energy, and honestly it worked more often than not. It’s a formula that’s been copied a hundred times since, but Guetta was one of the guys running it at scale before it became the industry-standard playbook it is now.
