Deadmau5 and Rob Swire Release Long-Awaited Collaboration
As Deadmau5 gears up to take on Amazon’s Prime Day with his PUBG Twitch livestream, he’s given us something a lot more worth listening to in the meantime: his new EP, mau5ville: Level 1, just dropped. rnrnThe release comes just weeks after Deadmau5 released his orchestral album where’s the drop, which made its debut in June. One month later, Deadmau5 is back with an eight-track EP built around the song longtime fans have been begging for: “Monophobia,” his first proper studio collaboration with Rob Swire in nearly a decade. The two previously linked up on “Ghosts n Stuff” back in 2008, so calling this one “long-awaited” is putting it lightly. Swire, best known as the voice of Pendulum and one half of Knife Party, brings a totally different vocal energy to Deadmau5’s production than fans are used to hearing on a mau5trap release. rnrnBeyond the original mix of “Monophobia,” mau5ville: Level 1 plays out like a mau5trap family reunion. Label mates ATTLAS, Latroit, and Rinzen each turned in their own official remix of the track, giving the same core song three totally different lives, and Latroit also gets an extended mix on the tracklist. GTA chips in with “Something Like,” while Deadmau5 rounds things out with a solo cut called “Nyquist” plus an extended version of “Monophobia” itself for anyone who wants the full ten-plus-minute ride. rnrnIt’s a packed summer for Deadmau5 no matter how you slice it. Between reworking his back catalog into orchestral form on where’s the drop and now dropping a scrappier, collaborative EP stacked with mau5trap talent, he’s covering a ton of ground in a matter of weeks. As for the Prime Day livestream, Deadmau5 has been vocal about his love of PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) for a while now, so Amazon tapping him to stream the battle royale game as part of its Prime Day programming lines up neatly with his gaming-heavy Twitch presence outside of music. Between the game stream and the new EP, it’s basically a two-for-one day for Deadmau5 fans who follow him for both the music and the internet chaos. rnrnStream the entire mau5ville: Level 1 EP below and find songs from ATTLAS, Latroit, and Rinzen with their own official remixes of “Monophobia.” rnrnhttps://open.spotify.com/album/1DH1jrRHjCyAEDwTmHmMZernrnPhoto via Rukes
