Calvin Harris was recently invited to perform some of his classic songs on BBC Radio 1 just a few days ago. Instead of showcasing some of his hits singles though, Nick Grimshaw decided to play a version of “The Lyrics Game” but instead made Calvin Harris remember some of the drops from his past songs.
To his credit, Harris managed to do a pretty decent job at remembering his past tunes. The segment is pretty hilarious none the less.

Calvin Harris has been in the game long enough at this point to have an absolutely massive back catalog, which makes a segment like this a lot trickier than it sounds. Anyone can remember the lyrics to whatever’s currently on the radio, but asking a producer to recall the exact drop from a track he made half a decade or more ago is a completely different challenge, especially when a lot of his biggest hits are built more around melody and production than actual lyrics.
Nick Grimshaw’s version of “The Lyrics Game” leans into that awkwardness in the best way possible. Rather than letting Harris coast through a normal interview segment, the format forces him to actually think on the spot and hum, sing, or otherwise reconstruct drops from memory with zero warning about which song is coming next. It’s the kind of bit that works precisely because it puts a massively successful artist in a slightly uncomfortable spot, and Harris seems to be a good enough sport about it to make it genuinely funny rather than awkward.
Given how many chart-topping records Harris has racked up over the years, from his earlier disco-house material through his more recent pop-leaning collaborations, there was plenty of material for Grimshaw to pull from. It’s honestly a little impressive that Harris got as many right as he did, considering how many different eras and styles his catalog spans at this point.
