Third-party Instagram apps are reportedly breaking as multiple outlets have confirmed that the company has limited access to its API data (application programming interface).
While the change was expected to happen a few years from now, third-party app developers that have created apps to analyze followers, analyze relevant hashtags, and identify which users are following back will most likely be disrupted in this move by Instagram.
According to TechCrunch, Instagram has shrunk the API limit from 5,000 to 200 calls per hour. While Instagram has refused to comment on these reports, Instagram has confirmed that they will no longer be accepting new app submissions to their API.
This change may have been due to a privacy measure, given that the parent company Facebook has found itself in with the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal.
