Zedd Announces Upcoming Collaboration

Zedd has been on fire since, well, since a long time. He has been a fixture in the industry for years now and he shows no sign of slowing down. His latest collaboration with Maren Morris and Grey “The Middle” has taken soundwaves, commercials and essentially everything by storm. Now, we have word on an upcoming collaboration with Matthew Belamy, the lead singer of one of his favorite bands, Muse.

When asked whats on the plate for this year in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, he opened up about the influence Muse has had on his career along with his excitment behind the upcoming collaboration. Dude never stops. Zedd is unsure Matthew has ever done a collaboration outside of Muse and his excitment can be hear throughout the interview. In addition, there sounds to be opportunity for him to be part of a cinematic release which could open even more doors for Zedd. He has already taken over Target advertisments and he seems to be telling us 2018 and beyond have a lot in store.

The Bellamy Collaboration Became “1685”

Zedd’s teased collaboration with Matt Bellamy eventually surfaced as “1685,” a track that gave fans exactly the crossover between electronic production and Bellamy’s unmistakable rock vocals that this interview promised. It marked a genuinely rare move for Bellamy, who has largely kept his vocal work contained to Muse throughout his career, and it showed Zedd continuing his streak of pulling collaborators from well outside the traditional EDM world after the massive crossover success of “The Middle.”

Zedd’s Genre-Blurring Strategy

Pairing with a rock vocalist as recognizable as Bellamy fit into a broader pattern for Zedd, who has consistently used outside-the-box collaborations to keep pushing his sound into pop, rock, and country-adjacent territory rather than staying confined to a strictly EDM lane. “The Middle” with Maren Morris and Grey had already proven he could dominate mainstream radio, and following it up with a rock crossover was a clear signal that Zedd was aiming to be one of the few producers capable of moving fluidly between entirely different corners of the music industry.
