Martin Garrix Announces New Area21 Track To Be Released Next Friday
Following the initial tease of David Guetta, Brooks, and Martin Garrix’s collaboration, Martin Garrix has announced his next track. While it’s not this collaboration or even a Martin Garrix track at all, Martin Garrix will be releasing his next single on Friday as his alter-alias, AREA21.
According to the Twitter account @worldofgarrix, Martin Garrix will be releasing “Happy” next Friday, February 9th. Stay tuned for Martin Garrix’s next big song this week!
For anyone who hasn’t been keeping up with Garrix’s side projects, AREA21 is the alien-obsessed alter ego he shares with singer-producer Maejor, complete with a logo of two little green guys riding around in a spaceship. The project has quietly been building its own discography since Garrix first debuted “Spaceships” at Ultra Music Festival back in 2016, followed by “Girls” that same year and “We Did It” in the summer of 2017. AREA21 kept the momentum going into the holidays with “Glad You Came,” which Garrix premiered live during his Ultra set, and now “Happy” looks to keep that streak alive with an upbeat, feel-good vibe that’s a bit of a departure from the big-room sound Garrix built his main solo career on.
It’s a smart move on Garrix’s part, honestly. Running two lanes at once lets him experiment with pop and alt-leaning songwriting under AREA21 without messing with the brand he’s built as a mainstage headliner under his own name, and fans have responded by treating the alias less like a side gig and more like its own project worth following closely. The teaser clip that WorldOfMartinGarrix posted below only fueled the hype further, racking up plenty of retweets within hours as fans tried to parse the “no stress” lyric snippet for clues about what the full track would sound like. Given how tight the turnaround was between the announcement and the Friday release date, it’s clear the song was already fully in the can and just waiting on the right moment to drop.
