Marshmello’s Video For ‘Take It Back’ Has Dropped And Features His Entire Family
Marshmello is downright brilliant when it comes to his music videos. Many of the videos tell a visual story and connect together to create a narrative of Marshmello’s life growing up. The latest video for ‘Take It Back’ does not buck that trend. This time the video focuses on Marshmello and his entire family at a holiday dinner.
It is the first time we get to see multiple people adorning a Marshmello helmet. It tells the story of young Marshmello taking home his new girlfriend for the holidays, and spoiler alert – she is less than accepted after a series of social screw ups. I mean seriously though, who knows the correct customs for a Marshmello?? But in the end Marshmello always has a wholesome message for his fans. In this one it is again the idea that it is never to late to make things right and accept someone into your life. Check it out below.
Where ‘Take It Back’ Fits Into Marshmello’s Catalog
‘Take It Back’ comes off Marshmello’s Joytime album, and the video’s holiday-dinner storyline fits right into the same visual world Marshmello had already been building with earlier videos like ‘Alone,’ where the helmet character works through relatable, personal moments instead of just standing behind a DJ booth. Compared to some of his bigger festival-anthem rollouts, this one’s smaller and quieter, but that’s kind of the point. It plays more like a mini holiday short film than a music video, and it’s aged well as one of the more personal, character-driven entries in his catalog rather than just another club banger with visuals slapped on top.
Why The Anonymity Angle Matters Here
Part of what makes these narrative videos land is that Marshmello has always kept his real identity hidden behind that helmet, letting the character stand in as a kind of everyman. Watching that same faceless character get roasted by his own family over holiday dinner, and awkwardly try to help his girlfriend fit in, works because it’s a universal, relatable scenario dropped onto an otherwise mysterious persona. That contrast between the larger-than-life masked DJ and the very ordinary family dinner drama is exactly why this video stuck with fans long after its initial release.
