In August of 2017, Beatport added three new sub-genres to their collection: Trap/Future Bass, Leftfield Bass, and Garage/Bassline/Grime. Just earlier this week, Beatport announced the newest addition to be Afro House.
While Afro House isn't known to much of the mainstream crowd, Afro House is comprised of artists such as Black Coffee, Hyenah, Pablo Fierro, Manoo, Osunlade, Boddhi Satva, and Culoe De Song.
Beatport's Chief Product Officer Terry Weerasinghe said “as a board member of Bridges For Music, I've been lucky to witness first-hand South Africa's incredible passion for house music. I haven't seen a place in the world where house music is such a central element of everyday life. Visiting vineyard events, I was stunned to see entire families, from grandparents to small children, enjoying a braii (BBQ) and partying to great music – and they all knew the songs!”
