Diplo Premiered His New Single With Major Lazer & Lorde on Lazer Sound

On Sunday (September 24th), Diplo unexpectedly dropped a new Major Lazer song with Lorde and Vybz Kartel. The song was premiered on Diplo’s Lazer Sound iTunes Radio show to an unexpected audience.

Despite the song teaser only being a minute long, fans have become increasingly excited for Lorde’s direction on this single. Before ended the segment, Diplo stated “we cannot let that one escape yet.”

While there’s still no official release date or song title for this release, stay tuned as we’ll be sure to report on it in the future.

What makes this pairing especially interesting is the history behind it. Back in November 2014, Diplo and Lorde got into a fairly public back-and-forth on Twitter after Diplo made a crude joke about Taylor Swift, and Lorde fired back in defense of her friend. Fast forward a few years and the two are apparently cool enough to be teasing a collaboration together, which says a lot about how quickly beef can turn into a studio session in this industry.

Vybz Kartel’s involvement adds another layer of intrigue. The Jamaican dancehall artist has been a recurring presence in Major Lazer’s world for years, going all the way back to his vocals on “Pon de Floor” in 2009, so hearing him back in the fold alongside a pop songwriter as sharp as Lorde is the kind of unexpected combination that Major Lazer has built a career on.

Lorde, for her part, was in the middle of a massive year off the back of Melodrama, which had come out earlier that June, so a dancehall-leaning Major Lazer feature would have been a pretty different look for her compared to the introspective pop of that album.
