Even though the festival season was already drawing to a close, that didn’t stop Armin van Buuren and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano. As if to say the party must always go on, the Dutchmen performed alongside and with each other tonight on the rooftop of Ibiza’s Ushuaïa Beach Hotel for a special event, powered by DJ Mag.
Taking place this Wednesday evening in Ibiza (1:00 est) and only a few hours prior to Armin van Buuren and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano’s closing party at Hï Ibiza, this DJ Mag event also coincided with the closing of the voting for this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. That day marked the last chance for dance music lovers across the globe to vote for their favorite artists.

Two of Dance Music’s Biggest Names, One Rooftop
This b2b set wasn’t some random pairing thrown together for a livestream. Armin van Buuren and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano had spent that whole summer linked up for a joint residency called U-R at Hï Ibiza, and earlier in 2017 the trio even released a collaborative anthem together called “You Are” to mark the occasion. Combining Armin’s trance pedigree as the longtime face of A State of Trance with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano’s house-leaning sound made for one of the more talked-about residencies on the island that year, so a DJ Mag-hosted rooftop b2b right before their season closer was a fitting way to send the summer off.
A Big Week for the DJ Mag Top 100
The timing lined up with more than just the residency’s end. That same week marked the final stretch of voting for DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll, one of the most closely watched (and debated) rankings in the industry every year. Armin van Buuren has long been a fixture near the top of that list, having held the No. 1 spot multiple times across his career, so having him front and center on a DJ Mag livestream during the poll’s closing days was no coincidence — it was as much a promotional moment for the magazine as it was a party for fans watching from home.
