The Chainsmokers Partner With Microsoft To Give Away Custom Xbox One S Console
Microsoft introduced their first console in a series of one-of-a-kind Xbox One S systems which are specifically designed for certain celebrities and brands. The console which was revealed yesterday for The Chainsmokers comes complete with custom lights, autographed controllers and much more.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox team needed to use a thumbnail sized USB-microprocessor on this Xbox since it converts sound into an “every-changing and dynamic light show.”
“We were really pumped to work with Xbox on this project and help bring our music to life in a new way,” said The Chainsmokers. “By combining it with the best gaming console in the world… We knew the team would do something amazing, but when we saw the custom Xbox One S for the first time, we were both blown away by how cool the design is.”

The Design Was More Involved Than It Looked
Under the hood, this wasn’t just a paint job. Microsoft built the console around 60 miniature LED pixels wired to that USB microprocessor, letting the whole thing pulse and shift color in sync with whatever The Chainsmokers track was playing, inspired directly by the lighting rigs at their live shows. It’s a genuinely custom piece of hardware rather than a sticker-wrapped standard Xbox, which is part of why Microsoft was so eager to show it off.
This console was also just the first entry in a bigger plan. Microsoft confirmed it intended to keep building one-of-a-kind Xbox One S units with other celebrities and brands throughout the rest of the year, with only a small number of units ever made available for each collaboration. So while The Chainsmokers got the honor of being first, the giveaway format – reply to the tweet and explain why you deserve it – became the template Xbox planned to reuse for future artist tie-ins down the line.
