The Martin Garrix Show Goes To South Africa During Second Episode
Just last week, Martin Garrix returned with the second season of The Martin Garrix Show. “For this new season, the format of the show has gone through some changes. The new format includes a number of shorter episodes that will be released on Martin’s official YouTube channel every Tuesday for the coming weeks,” Garrix wrote.
For the second episode of the second season, Martin Garrix visits a small town in Cape Town in South Africa. During the video, Garrix is seen taking care of children that are either abandoned or abused. In addition to Martin Garrix‘s trip, the DJ and producer is also seen playing his set at Ultra South Africa.
The children’s home Garrix visits is an SOS Children’s Village in Cape Town, an organization dedicated to caring for kids who are victims of abuse or have been abandoned. Garrix made the trip alongside his father, and rather than treating it as a quick photo opportunity, he set up a DJ booth on the back of a Red Bull truck and threw an impromptu set that had the kids dancing and jumping around – proof that music translates no matter the circumstances surrounding it.
Garrix also closed out his South African run by headlining Ultra South Africa alongside David Guetta and DJ Snake, with the crowd giving him one of the warmer receptions of his 2017 touring calendar. Between the charity stop and the festival set, this episode does a solid job of showing two very different sides of Garrix’s life on the road – the massive stages in front of thousands of people, and the quieter, more personal moments that don’t usually make it into a highlight reel.
It’s also worth pointing out how different this season’s format is from the first. Season one leaned into longer, documentary-style episodes that dug deep into a single storyline. Season two trades that for a faster, more digestible weekly cadence, which means fans get more frequent glimpses into Garrix’s life and travels rather than waiting on a handful of longer drops throughout the year. Whether that trade-off is worth it probably depends on whether you prefer a deep dive or a quick weekly check-in, but either way it’s more content for a fanbase that clearly can’t get enough of the behind-the-scenes look at Garrix’s schedule.
