Skrillex Drops New Melodic Collaboration With Vindata and NSTASIA

Skrillex has been on an absolute tear lately, dropping one surprise release after another without so much as a warning tweet.
Late last night on OWSLA’s Youtube channel a surprise and unannounced Skrillex collaboration was uploaded. This marks the 4th release from the artist in the last three weeks. First came his collaboration with Poo Bear, then the release of his previously leaked ‘Neoprene’ remix and of course his jersey club collab with DJ Sliink, ‘Saint Laurent’.
That kind of pace would be a big deal for most producers, but for Skrillex it is basically business as usual. Ever since he founded OWSLA back in 2011, he has used the label as a playground to put out everything from bass-heavy dubstep to full-blown pop crossovers, and the trend of him never sticking to one lane for very long shows no signs of slowing down.
Today you can take a listen to a new collaboration with Vindata and NSTASIA. The track is not what you would expect from Skrillex. It will no doubt leave some of his fans upset just like his track with Poo Bear. That being said ‘Favor’ is a gorgeous song. Melodic, catchy and progressive. It is reminiscent of his work with Justin Bieber under his Jack U project with Diplo. Take a listen to the new song below.
For anyone who isn’t familiar, Vindata is the Los Angeles duo of Rani Rebel and Rami Kader, who spent years working behind the scenes on some of Skrillex’s biggest records before stepping out with their own project and ‘In Colour’ EPs. Their touch is all over ‘Favor,’ giving the track a lush, R&B-leaning sound that feels miles away from the gritty bass drops Skrillex built his name on. NSTASIA’s vocals only add to that vibe, floating over the production instead of getting buried under it.
Whether or not ‘Favor’ ends up being the direction Skrillex leans into going forward, it is another reminder that he has never really cared about being boxed in as just a dubstep guy. From Jack U’s pop moments to his more experimental trap and jersey club output, dude clearly just wants to make whatever sounds good to him at the time, fans’ expectations be damned. Considering how much he has dropped in such a short window, do not be surprised if there is even more on the way soon.
