Gregory Kantor, AKA 5 & A Dime has been making strides in the EDM industry for the past few years. Since 2010, 5 & A Dime has continued to get more and more popular, as he even got the chance to tour alongside Steve Aoki and Kendrick Lamar in 2013. With a list of support to long to list but includes mega names like Tiesto, Afrojack, The Chainsmokers & more, 5 & A Dime is ready to take over the scene. His newest track “Make Em Bounce” is his 1st release in about a year, but he hasn't lost any traction! What got you into making music, specifically Electronic Dance Music?
Electronic music has always been an interest of mine. My cousin showed me Tiesto’s “Adagio for Strings” when I was only 13 and ever since then I started digging for more. In regards to making music, Girl Talk was the first influence I had to actually start producing tracks.
Where did the name 5 & A Dime come from?
It is actually inspired by a store called Hoys 5 & 10 in New Jersey where I got into some trouble at age 14! 4 years later I was looking for a name to call my production alias and was brainstorming. I was looking through pictures in my parents attic and I saw some pictures that reminded me, and it clicked! I decided to call myself 5 & A Dime since it was a memorable moment (not in the best way!) and was at the time I started to be interested in DJing.
How would you describe your sound to someone who's never heard you before?
Energetic bass music! I guess I would say that my signature to date is a level of darkness or aggression that comes through in the emotion of my music.
I have been writing a lot of new music recently though and that will be a departure from some of my previous sounds signatures. I am always willing to change my style for the sake of artistic development. I’m never scared to try new things and to combine unlikely pairings with music if it works.

No problem! Making a mix like this one is something I really enjoy. I get to piece together a lot of music I am currently listening to and share it with everyone. From this mix I really love “I Know” by YYVNG X KOBE and “House Shake (rrotik Remix)” by Torro Torro & SMALLTOWN DJs.
What does the summer have in store for you?
Plenty of new music! I've been working so hard on these projects and am so happy to finally show everyone!
Work wise, I will continue to be in the studio along with some days by the beach to relax and draw sources of inspiration.
What are some things you like to do in spare time when not making music?
I love to go out and try new food. I’m a huge foodie and always enjoy trying something new and exotic. Besides food and eating, I would have to say just hanging out with friends and seeing my family whenever I can, and playing League of Legends.
Favorite home-cooked meal?
These ribs that my grandmother taught me how to make. It’s essentially a tomato sauce with some cheese in it that you cook down for an hour, then you braise the ribs on each side with some garlic and olive oil, and then drop them into the tomato sauce and cook for a few more hours. They fall right off the bone.
Favorite Junk Food?
Yodells by Drakes. It’s something I’ve had my entire life and I can 100% say that I am addicted to them. Another name for them are Devil Dogs.
