Martin Garrix’s Alter Ego Area21, Expected To Drop New Single at E3 Tomorrow

When Martin Garrix released “Spaceships” over a year ago on his alter-ego AREA21, Martin Garrix has been very quiet about any new releases. AREA21 then unexpectedly released the single “Girls” via Martin Garrix’s STMPD Records.
The wait seems to be finally over though as Canadian video game journalist Geoff Keighley revealed that the duo would be dropping their new single on YouTube Live at E3. Martin Garrix later confirmed the News that that their new single “We Did It” will officially be released on June 23rd and that fans can listen to the new release all week long on YouTube live at E3.

For anyone still catching up, AREA21 isn’t a solo side-project, it’s a full-on duo pairing Garrix with American songwriter and producer Maejor, who has writing and production credits with artists like Justin Bieber and Wiz Khalifa. The animated, sci-fi-tinged visual identity of AREA21 has always felt like an outlet for material that doesn’t quite fit under Garrix’s own name, and “We Did It” looked set to continue that trend as the project’s biggest push yet.
Tapping Geoff Keighley and E3’s YouTube Live coverage for the reveal was a smart move too. E3 pulls in a massive gaming audience that doesn’t always overlap with festival crowds, and premiering a single there gave AREA21 a shot at reaching listeners who might never stumble across the track through typical dance music channels. It’s also a natural fit given how much of AREA21’s branding leans on arcade and video-game style visuals in the first place.
Garrix launching his own label, STMPD RCRDS, has clearly given him more room to experiment outside of his own name too. AREA21 lets him chase a goofier, more playful sound without it having to carry the weight of a proper Martin Garrix single, and based on the reception to “Spaceships” and “Girls” so far, that freedom seems to be paying off.
Stay tuned for the official release of Area21’s new single “We Did It.”
True to the promise, “We Did It” landed right on schedule on June 23rd, giving fans a proper AREA21 follow-up to “Spaceships” and “Girls.” Keep an eye on the project’s socials for whatever comes next from Garrix’s alter ego.
