With a new remix for Seinabo Sey still doing the rounds, we decided it was time to hear the sounds that get producer and DJ Charming Horses in a good mood. Here he has hand-picked five of the tracks he can't live without.
1) Depeche Mode – “Enjoy The Silence”
I've been in in love with this one for decades. Strong melody, perfect lyrics and very emotional vocals. One of the best synth-pop tracks ever, in my opinion.
2) Everything But The Girl – “Missing” (Todd Terry Club Mix)
One of the best remixes I've ever heard. Perfect interpretation, charming groove and sound selection. It gets me in the perfect mood!
3) Earth, Wind and Fire – “September”
Love the 70s and 80s sounds. Disco classics make me happy every time I hear them. “September” is one of my most favourite ones; love the vocals, basslines and the funky groove.
4) Shapeshifters – “Lola's Theme”
Perfect combination of disco feelings and house music for me. Love this classic influenced sound with strings, many filters and a classical house beat. There was a time that house music was very often influenced by this kind of music, just thinking about artists like Michael Gray, Junior Jack or Freemasons, for example.
5) Jamiroquai – “Space Cowboy” (David Morales Remix)
I cannot say how often I played this mix on vinyl so many years ago when house music started to expand in Europe especially in Cologne, a long time ago. This is still a hot remix for me. By the way, it's good to see and hear that Jamiroquai is finally back now!
