Spring Awakening Announces Set Times and Special Guest

Spring Awakening, Chicago’s most anticipated EDM music festival, announced set times as well as a special guest this past week. The festival stole the attention of the festival world earlier this year with their all-star line up. Now, they have revealed the long-awaited trance arena special guest– Armin Van Buuren.

Spring Awakening’s come a long way to get here. It started back in 2008 as a small concert series held in a Chicago theater, nothing close to the multi-stage, tens-of-thousands-strong festival it is today. By 2012 it had moved to Soldier Field and pulled in over 50,000 fans, and the year after that it expanded to three full days with more than 75,000 people and over 100 artists on the bill. Now settled in at Addams-Medill Park for the second year running, Spring Awakening has become the anchor of Chicago’s summer festival calendar, and every year the production and lineups keep getting bigger.

The Grammy-nominated artist will be playing an evening set on Saturday from 5:45 to 6:45 P.M in addition to his night set on Friday. Alongside Buuren, artists such as Paul van Dyk and Andrew Rayel will be playing the Trance Arena that weekend.

Getting Armin into the Trance Arena is a massive win for Spring Awakening. The guy’s been one of the most decorated trance DJs on the planet for basically two decades, hosting his own global radio show and consistently landing at the top of dance music polls. Pairing him with Paul van Dyk, one of the genre’s true pioneers, and rising star Andrew Rayel makes the Trance Arena a can’t-miss corner of the festival all on its own, even with the massive names closing out the main stages.

The festival, set to take place on the weekend of June 9 at Addams-Medill Park, is still selling single-day passes here. You can also check out the newly announced set times where artists such as Galantis, Diplo, and Martin Garrix will be closing out the nights. Finally, you can peruse the official festival map and check out their flyover video below.

With Galantis, Diplo, and Martin Garrix headlining the main stages and a Trance Arena stacked with Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Andrew Rayel, Spring Awakening 2017 is shaping up to be one of the most complete lineups Chicago has seen from the festival yet. Grab your single-day pass now before this one sells out.

I'm always up for discovering new music and exploring different genres, but if I had to choose, I'd say I gravitate towards trap, dubstep, and just about anything glitchy/heavy. That being said, my favorite artists are Porter Robinson, Flume, and Odesza. I'm originally from the Philadelphia area, but am currently studying journalism at Northwestern University near Chicago. Feel free to message me on Facebook or Instagram if you want to talk music!
