Calvin Harris Reveals The Intention For His Songs Being Released in 2017

Sometimes we all need just a little bit of a pick me up through the music we listen to. We’re sure that you have some go to songs when you’re trying to raise your spirits.
As Calvin Harris released his third single “Rollin” off of his next album, Calvin Harris revealed the intention he has for all of his songs being released in 2017. “All my songs in 2017 have been sonically designed to make you feel fucking incredible,” states Calvin Harris.
It’ll be interesting to see the good feelings we get from his collaborations with artists such as Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Kehlani, Future, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Big Sean, John Legend, Khalid, Migos, Schoolboy Q, Ariana Grande, Young Thug, D.R.A.M., Nicki Minaj, Lil Yachty, Jessie Reyez, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Snoop Dogg.

That massive guest list wasn’t just talk. “Rollin,” featuring Future and Khalid, arrived on May 12, 2017 as the third single lifted from what would become Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, dropping June 30, 2017. The record marked a real pivot for Calvin Harris, trading in the towering room-shaking anthems that built his career for a looser, sun-soaked blend of funk, R&B, and dance-pop, packed with warm basslines and island-tinged grooves instead of festival-sized drops.
The philosophy behind “Rollin” carried straight through to the full album. Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 ended up debuting at number two on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, and it topped the charts outright in Canada and Finland — proof that the good-vibes-only approach Calvin Harris promised resonated well beyond the dance floor. Critics largely agreed with the sentiment too, praising the project as effortless and communal, even if a few reviewers felt it played things a little safe.
Looking back, that February tweet basically doubled as a mission statement for the entire era. Calvin Harris wasn’t just chasing another club banger with each release — he was building a whole body of work meant to feel good from front to back, and roping in one of the most stacked collaborator lists of his career to pull it off. Between Frank Ocean’s falsetto, Travis Scott’s ad-libs, and Pharrell’s signature bounce, it’s hard to argue the mission wasn’t accomplished. If “Rollin” was any indication of what was coming, 2017 was shaping up to be one of the most feel-good years of Calvin Harris’ catalog, and the eventual chart numbers backed that up.
