For the past few years Maya Jane Coles (MJC) and her alias Nocturnal Sunshine have been quiet on the music front. Finally the long streak comes to an end. Her new EP titled Won’t Let You Down is now available. It features 3 original MJC songs, with two remixes courtesy of Catz N Dogz and Paride Saraceni. Both remixes are of the title track “Won’t Let You Down.” It is a tall order to improve the song, as the original is another terrific product from Ms. Coles.
Maya’s trademark psychedelic sound can be heard within the first few seconds of playing “Won’t Let You Down.” Synths and unique gong like percussion create an out of this world atmosphere. Eerie vocals creep in here and there, and are not overdone. It is not as danceable as her other works, but the quality remains. If you want to move your feet, the remixes have more energy and warrant a listen.
